An intensive phase of the Sisslerfeld project has come to an end. The construction work on the bridge deck took place over just five weeks, during which rail traffic on private tracks was completely suspended. During this time, a 41-metre-long bridge deck was cast in concrete. This involved the use of 130 tonnes of reinforcing steel and around 500 m³ of concrete. The slab was connected by friction to the 13-metre-deep, dismantled bored pile wall. This presented a particular planning challenge, as the structure must absorb and transfer the forces from the tracks, which run diagonally and in an arc across the underpass. The work was carried out successfully and on schedule, and the tracks have been reopened.
The next phase is now underway: the excavation of the 4.85 m deep underpass using the top-down construction method.
Special thanks for their professionalism and perseverance go to our Olten/Fribourg team: Erich Plüss (ChBL), Dominik Plüss (Deputy ChBL), Hubert Szwugier and Claude Chappius (underpass design) and the draughtsmen. Special thanks also go to the project manager from the Canton of Aargau, our consortium partner and the construction contractor for their excellent, goal-oriented collaboration.
