In order for revitalisations to have the desired effect and for animals and plants to complete their life cycle, water systems must be interconnected. Fish migration in particular is often interrupted by obstacles such as weirs, sills and river power stations. In order to restore free fish migration, we dismantle obstacles to migration, redesign them to make them fish-friendly or supplement them with fish migration aids (fish ladders and fish ladders).
We are committed to finding fish-ecologically effective and practical solutions to restore free fish migration in small and large watercourses up to the Upper Rhine. Through our involvement in national and international committees and our intensive dialogue with research institutions, we make a significant contribution to the further development of this topic.
In particular, we support power plant operators and authorities in the planning of fish migration aids as part of the remediation obligation stipulated by the Water Protection Act and offer services from the feasibility study to commissioning. Since 2022, we have also been supporting the Federal Office for the Environment in the assessment of fish passability remediation projects as part of an expert mandate for technical issues.
For the remediation of non-power plant-related obstacles, we join forces with our revitalisation department in order to meet all habitat and fish passability requirements.
