A8 Interlaken Ost-Brienz: IGT, Intergral overall test in the Giessbach tunnel

Tuesday, 20. May 2025

As part of the A8 Interlaken Ost-Brienz maintenance project, the Global Integration Test (IGT) in the Giessbach tunnel was successfully completed this month during the last scheduled night-time closure.

During this test, the interactions between all the safety-relevant systems were verified.

In particular, the automatic detection of events and the occupation of the emergency bays by the video system were tested, as were the reactions to the signalling systems, the lighting and the activation of the corresponding alarm for the police.

Next, the reactions of the fire alarm systems, i.e. the heat and smoke detectors, to the final lighting, ventilation, signalling and security tunnel systems, as well as to the police alarm, were tested.

Finally, the activation of reflexes with the opening of safety tunnel doors and the correct operation of emergency calls and the extraction of fire extinguishers from SOS niches were tested.

Once these tests had been successfully completed, experimental operation of the tunnel officially began, after which the entire tunnel will be handed over to the customer.

We would like to thank FEDRO and all those involved for their invaluable cooperation in this project.
