The A9 national road was upgraded between 1960 and 1975 through the addition of numerous bridges and galleries to make it safe in winter as a pass road. Since then there has been no major overhaul, therefore rehabilitation of both road and the many engineering structures is necessary. The phased general maintenance concept for national roads includes a complete refurbishment of section No. 70, the lot for Rothwald Bridge. The open stretch of the A9 national road, a total of 1.416 km, will be repaired. This stretch of the A9 road is made up of a total 1.316 km of open road while 0.1 km of the road goes through the Mittenbäch gallery.
