A16 Motorway: Inauguration of the slow traffic lane (VTL) between Frinvillier and Rondchâtel

Monday, 15. May 2023

The A16 motorway between Biel and Tavannes is a 3rd class motorway on which various types of vehicles circulate, particularly slow vehicles (tractors, bicycles, etc.). Given the steepness of the rising road, the significant differences in speed between these users generate a major accident risk. The FEDRO therefore wanted to develop a project to separate slow traffic and soft mobility on a dedicated lane. This has now been achieved, and on Saturday 13 May 2023 the slow traffic lane (VTL) between Frinvillier and Rondchâtel was inaugurated, the realisation of which was a prerequisite for the wider renovation work on the A16 Tavannes-Bözingenfeld motorway section.
The event attracted a great deal of public interest. On this day, the population was able to discover this new route which will allow soft mobility, as well as agricultural traffic, to link Frinvillier to Rondchâtel in both directions in a safe and pleasant way.
The population was also able to see the means used to ensure the successful integration of this new road for slow-moving traffic into the landscape and environment.
IUB Engineering SA carried out the studies and monitoring of the implementation of the retaining structures as well as the renovation of two bridges.
